Crowns and Bridges

Crowns and Bridges

A crown is a tooth-shaped cap that is placed over a mechanically weakened tooth (e.g. badly decayed, cracked, root canal treated) thus restoring its shape, size, strength, appearance and function.. Crowns are easily color matched and blends seamlessly with your natural teeth.

A bridge is literally multiple units of crowns joined together to replace one or more missing teeth. A bridge is made up of two or more crowns on either side of the space known as abutment teeth (anchoring teeth) with pontic (false tooth/teeth) in between. The pontic is fused in between 2 crowns, thereby bridging them together. Bridge not only fills gaps, but also prevents drifting of remaining teeth. It can also improve your chewing and speech,,correct a misaligned bite, and maintain your face shape.

Types of Porcelain Crown

Metal Porcelain Crown

The entire crown has a metal layer underlying and porcelain / ceramic on top of it to mimic the natural tooth shade. The metal framework is thin, strong, and perfectly fits the prepared teeth. They are more affordable than all ceramic crowns. Even though they are not as aesthetic as full porcelain crowns they are still a good choice for posterior/back teeth restoration.

Full Porcelain Crown

These crowns are metal free which are very ideal for front tooth restoration as they are translucent and natural looking. Today full porcelain crowns are considered the most modern and beautiful crown that a tooth can get.
